Missing Teeth

Losing a tooth doesn't always mean there's only one way forward.

Drayton House Dental Practice

Some people are missing a single tooth. Others have worn dentures for years and are looking for something that feels more secure. Sometimes a tooth can even be saved before it needs replacing. The important thing is understanding your options. We’ll take the time to explain them, answer your questions and help you decide what feels right for you.

Why replacing missing teeth matters

It’s easy to think of a missing tooth as purely cosmetic. In reality, missing teeth can affect much more than your smile. Over time they can make eating more difficult, change the way you bite together and even allow neighbouring teeth to drift into the space. Replacing missing teeth isn’t simply about appearance. It’s about keeping your mouth healthy and functioning well for the future.

What are my options?

The right treatment depends on your smile, your lifestyle and what's important to you.

Single dental implants
This replaces one missing tooth without affecting the healthy teeth next to it. It’s one of the closest alternatives to having your natural tooth back.

Immediate dental implants
In suitable cases, an implant can be placed at the same appointment as a tooth extraction. This can reduce the number of procedures and shorten your overall treatment time.

Implant-retained dentures
If you’re missing several or all of your teeth, implant-retained dentures provide greater stability than conventional dentures, helping you eat and speak with more confidence.

Dentures
Modern dentures are individually designed to feel comfortable and look natural. Using a combination of digital technology and traditional craftsmanship, we create dentures that are tailored to the person wearing them.

Does a tooth always need replacing?

Not necessarily.

If a damaged or infected tooth can be saved, we’ll always explore that first. Treatments such as root canal therapy and dental crowns can often restore and protect a tooth that might otherwise be lost. Keeping your natural teeth wherever possible is something we care about.

Why choose Drayton House for missing teeth?

There isn’t one solution that’s right for everyone. Some patients are looking for the closest thing to a natural tooth. Others want a secure alternative to loose dentures. Some simply want to know whether their tooth can still be saved.

We’ll always start with that conversation. From digital planning and modern treatment techniques to carefully designed restorations, every recommendation we make is centred around helping you make an informed decision that’s right for you.

I joined one of the care plans in Drayton House about 4 years ago and have kept it. After my visits and nice experiences, I recommended it to my friends. All of the staff there are extremely friendly. The environment and internal settings are very clean and modern. Dr Shah is professional, patient, thorough and caring. The referrals he made for us were timely and proper. The treatments he did for us were very satisfying.

Excellent dental practice. Dr Ria has been fantastic always, especially in arranging my son’s referral for treatment, and a special thank you to Julia on reception who went above and beyond to make the referral process happen quickly and smoothly. She was incredibly supportive, compassionate, and reassuring throughout, keeping me informed and making what could have been a stressful situation much easier. AMAZING TEAM. We are very grateful for their professionalism and kindness. Highly recommended.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best way to replace a missing tooth?

The answer depends on your oral health, the number of teeth you’re missing and your personal preferences. During your consultation we’ll explain all suitable options and help you choose the one that’s right for you.

Is a dental implant better than a denture?

Both treatments have their advantages. Dental implants provide a fixed solution for many patients, while dentures remain an excellent option in the right circumstances. We’ll explain the benefits of each during your consultation.

Can a missing tooth always be replaced?

In most cases, yes. The treatment that’s most appropriate will depend on your oral health and the condition of the surrounding bone and gums.

I've only just lost a tooth. Should I wait?

Not necessarily. It’s always worth getting in touch as soon as possible. In some situations, early treatment gives us more options for replacing or even saving the tooth.
