We know that. Some people feel a little uneasy before an appointment. Others haven’t been for years because one difficult experience has stayed with them. Some people apologise for being nervous before they’ve even sat down. You don’t need to. You’re not the first person to feel that way, and you certainly won’t be the last.
You’re not alone
Dental anxiety is incredibly common. We’ve looked after patients who’ve avoided the dentist for months. Others for years. The important thing is that you’ve taken the first step. From there, we’ll take it one appointment at a time.
If the dental treatment feels overwhelming, we’ll take the time to talk through the different ways we can support you. There’s never any pressure or judgement — just a calm, understanding approach designed to help you feel comfortable and cared for every step of the way.
Nobody enjoys feeling frightened. Our job isn’t to tell you not to worry. It’s to understand why you’re worried in the first place. We’ll take the time to listen, explain what’s happening in plain English and make sure you feel in control throughout your appointment. If all we achieve on your first visit is helping you feel more comfortable about coming back, that’s a really good place to start.
The first appointment doesn’t have to be about treatment. Sometimes it’s simply about having a conversation.
We’ll ask what’s worrying you, explain anything you’re unsure about and agree on a pace that feels comfortable.
If you’d like us to stop at any point, we’ll stop. If you’d like something explained again, we’ll explain it. You don’t have to pretend you’re fine if you’re not.

Please don’t worry. You won’t be judged. We’ll simply look at where things are today and talk through the best way forward together.
Absolutely. Just let us know. We’ll always work at a pace you’re comfortable with.
Not necessarily. Many nervous patients prefer to begin with a consultation so we can get to know each other and discuss any concerns first.
