Drayton House Dental Practice

Dental Hygiene

It's a small investment in your oral health that can make a big difference over time.

Drayton House Dental Practice

Regular hygiene appointments are one of the simplest ways to keep your teeth and gums healthy, helping to remove the build-up that brushing and flossing alone can’t always reach.

What is a dental hygiene appointment?

A hygiene appointment is all about prevention. Your hygienist will carefully remove plaque and hardened tartar from around your teeth and gums before polishing your teeth to leave them feeling clean and fresh. We’ll also check the health of your gums and offer practical advice on brushing, flossing and looking after your smile at home. The aim isn’t to judge your routine. It’s to help you get the best from it.

Is it the right treatment for me?

We believe everyone can benefit from seeing a hygienist.

Whether you’re looking to maintain a healthy smile, have noticed bleeding gums, or simply want your teeth to feel cleaner, regular hygiene appointments are an important part of long-term dental care. If we spot anything that needs further attention, we’ll explain what we’ve found and talk you through the next steps.

Patient journey

Step 1

Consultation

Your appointment will begin with a look at the health of your teeth and gums.

Step 2

Treatment

Your hygienist will then gently remove plaque and tartar before polishing your teeth to leave them feeling smooth and clean.

Most patients leave saying the same thing…”I should have done that sooner.”

Step 3

Advice

If there’s anything you could be doing differently at home, we’ll share practical advice that’s tailored to you rather than giving the same recommendations to everyone.

I joined one of the care plans in Drayton House about 4 years ago and have kept it. After my visits and nice experiences, I recommended it to my friends. All of the staff there are extremely friendly. The environment and internal settings are very clean and modern. Dr Shah is professional, patient, thorough and caring. The referrals he made for us were timely and proper. The treatments he did for us were very satisfying.

Excellent dental practice. Dr Ria has been fantastic always, especially in arranging my son’s referral for treatment, and a special thank you to Julia on reception who went above and beyond to make the referral process happen quickly and smoothly. She was incredibly supportive, compassionate, and reassuring throughout, keeping me informed and making what could have been a stressful situation much easier. AMAZING TEAM. We are very grateful for their professionalism and kindness. Highly recommended.

Frequently asked questions

Will a hygiene appointment hurt?

Most hygiene appointments are very comfortable. If your gums are particularly sensitive or it’s been a while since your last visit, you may notice some mild discomfort, but we’ll always work as gently as possible and can adapt treatment if needed.

How often should I see a hygienist?

That depends on your oral health. Many patients benefit from appointments every six months, while others may need to visit more regularly. We’ll recommend an interval that’s right for you.

Can a hygienist whiten my teeth?

A hygiene appointment won’t change the natural colour of your teeth, but it can remove surface stains caused by everyday food and drink, helping your smile look brighter and fresher.

Do I need to see a hygienist if I brush and floss every day?

Yes. Even with excellent brushing and flossing, plaque can harden into tartar, which can’t be removed at home. Regular hygiene appointments help keep your teeth and gums in the best possible condition.
